My first time seeing Overwatch I was over at a friends friends house who streams. He had vods showing off his Widowmaker plays and while they were cool, I had no idea what I was looking at. I saw him throw himself in the air, get a kill, and then...??? I didn't know. Shooter games were never my thing unless zombies were involved anyway.

Then, I got with my partner. They played daily and had been playing for a while at that point. They tried and tried to get me to play, but what did it was how they explained the characters. A gorilla that lived on the moon? A gay grandpa?? A hamster that crash lands on earth and runs around in a big ball??? A lesbian girl who slips through time???? A GRANDMA THAT PUTS HER ENEMY TO SLEEP AND SNIPES TO HEAL HER TEAM!?!? Something about Ana, the grandma, sold me. It was hilarious to me that the 'grandma' (yes I know shes not... yet) could sleep people and heal you like a real grandma could.

Ana keychain I found on sale

From there we sadly couldn't afford internet or any live services on a console for a few years, so we weren't able to play until our 2nd apartment together. When Overwatch 2 came out was the time we got internet. We've played through every battlepass together but 2 that we didn't like enough to spend money on. I know as well as any other OW fan that they have their issues and false promises, but it's one of the few games I can play as/with people of different sexuality/gender expressions.

Starting out, my main was D.VA, which I feel is pretty standard. Moving on I learned Orisa, Ball, Mei, Echo, Ana, Kiriko and Moira. I've only recently felt confident in my Mercy after 15 hrs. These are still the mains that I try to swap between, but I have a STRONG lean twords Moira. I'm just gonna be honest, my aim has never been that great. Switching to PC was a big learning curve for me to the point I almost doubted I would get it. Of course, I did, but it wasn't without struggle and wrist pains. She is helpful with aiming as she links on to the enemy, heals with a spray, and throws orbs that heals/damages all around it. I have tried to lean away from her and have since learned to aim better, but her androgyny has always been a huge selling point of mine. The first skin I ever cared about saving up points to get was Glam, one of her David Bowie inspired Legendary looks. Since, I have played A LOT of Moira...

As you can see, I love Moira, so I'm usually healer. My partner recently has been Ball, Hazard, Orisa, Ashe, Sojourn, Lifeweaver, or Venture. They are much better at swapping and playing a variety than I am. My sisters will sometimes play with us- the gamer plays DVA, Sojourn, Moira, Lucio or Kiriko, the not gamer plays Soldier so she can sprint. That makes us almost a full team and the last person filling in has to deal with our foolery. I was also playing with some streamer friends for awhile that otherwise we may not have talked as much. I really appriciate it as an avenue to spend time with others.

In the future I would really like to try out more Hazard, Lifeweaver, and Venture. I'm into Hazards punk vibes, Lifeweavers flamboyancy, and Venture is nonbinary, so of course I'm wanting to learn them. Plus they really like archaeology and geology, which, same. I don't play everyday like I used to, but I still try to have time for events and the battlepass.
